About Me
I was born and raised in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. Through my childhood, I spent a lot of time playing outdoors at the beach. I did enjoy making sand cakes, sandcastles, and many other fun creations. I did have the opportunity to connect with nature through the ocean, the beach palms, and the wind.
Part of my childhood I attended a Montessori school. The outdoors was my primary classroom: I observed the beauty of the wings of a butterfly moving along the soft breeze, the interesting movement of a caterpillar, the hard work of the ants and many more wonderful things.
When I grew up and it was time to attend university, I chose to become a Special Education Teacher. Through my career I understood the importance of “Following the child”, as Maria Montessori mentioned several times in the past, and I understood that that was the path I wanted to follow: to become a Montessori teacher. It has been always in my heart to respect the development of the child and that, as the adult, I am only the guide and the provider of the tools that are needed to create a safe environment to offer to the child.
In 2016 I moved permanently to Virginia, after marrying my wonderful husband, Anthony. I got my Montessori training diploma, Assistance to Infancy, in 2021 in Saint Louis, MO.
Currently, I have over 10 years of experience working with children in different schools and settings, from newborns through highschoolers.
On my free time I enjoy practicing yoga, reading, journaling, playing the violin, learning (I just got my 200 hrs. yoga diploma, I have taken an herbalism class among other things!), spending time outdoors and traveling anywhere with my husband. I do also visit my family in Mexico often during the year.
Fun facts:
- I love warm weather and reading a book while drinking some tea.
- I can spend hours swimming in the ocean: I believe is one of the most wonderful things earth has!
- I love to rest.
- I understand the importance of self-care, especially when working with children.
- I enjoy nature walks, yoga, playing the violin, reading, traveling with my husband! I am often found creating and making crafts.
- Also, I am constantly looking for workshops or classes to learn more and to better serve the community.
Experience
- I have several jobs, but all of them fall into the same topic: Montessori.
- I work privately at home with children (Montessori at home)
- I work at a Montessori school as a Spanish teacher.
- My most recent project: Nido classes and Spanish Circle Time. In the first one, I offer sessions to children with their caregivers in Spanish. I am hoping to polish this project more and offer more of this in September. The Spanish Circle Time is offered to children in elementary age. Through music, movement, poems and rhymes, instruments and more, the children have the opportunity to learn Spanish in a Montessori way. Both projects are completely new, and I am looking forward to seeing where this goes!
